Band Band is one of many extra-curricular activities available to the children of the parish. Any student in grades four through eight who is interested in learning an instrument is welcome. The Advanced Band consists of students in grades five through eight with musical instrument experience. Rehearsals take place in the school, one afternoon per week. Boy Scouts Saint James Boy Scout Troop 24 is dedicated to the principles of the world brotherhood of scouting, where young men between the ages of 11-18 have a safe haven in which to learn responsibility, self reliance, leadership, and plethora of outdoor skills. Cub Scouts As the largest pack in the district, Saint James Church has been the chartered organization for Pack 24 for over 44 years. Boys in grades one through five are invited to join. During these formative years, Cub Scouting focuses on the development of character and encourages spiritual growth. As a pack, they meet once a month in the Church Hall. Activities vary each month. They try to incorporate several community service projects into the program including St. Vincent de Paul canned food drive, Toys For Tots, and the Angel Tree Project. They hope that by encouraging boys to learn to "Do Your Best," they will provide the boys with childhood memories that they will carry into adulthood. Girl Scouts All girls first through eighth grade can participate. Saint James hosts Brownie, Junior, and Cadette troops. Through small groups with adult leadership, Girl Scouting helps girls grow up to be caring, competent, and confident women. Programs are specifically designed for their age group to help them develop their character, skills, sense of patriotism and service. New members and adult volunteers are welcome. Meetings take place usually evenings or after school at parish facilities. |
