Athletic Club

Saint James A.C. is a volunteer organization which sponsors league sports for the youth of the parish and maintains and operates the Saint James Fields located on Cheviot Road, north of the school. Any member of the parish is eligible for membership and welcome to join. Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month and are open to the public. Volunteer coaches and coaching assistants for the boys and girls teams are needed as well as coordinators and helpers for the successful operation of programs, events and fund raisers.

Bingo

Saint James Bingo has been in operation for over 18 years. With games being held every Tuesday evening at 6:45 p.m. in the Church Hall, the workers who make the games possible donate their time and energy for a very worthwhile cause. Volunteers are needed to work the tables, sell refreshments, call the numbers and help count the proceeds. Volunteers are asked to work once a month. By providing fun and entertainment to many members of our community, the group is able to donate its proceeds to the parish for necessary capital expenditures and other specific purposes.

Bridge Marathon

Saint James Bridge Marathon operates separate leagues for the men, women, and couples. They play in each other's homes on different nights starting in September. Any proceeds are donated through PTO for the benefit of the school. Interested bridge players should contact the individual coordinators.

Ladies Daytime Bridge

The women play bridge once a month in each other's homes from September through May. The day of the week varies with each group. If you are interested in playing bridge, please call our representative.

Daughters of Isabella

D of I is part of a women's international social and charitable organization which contributes to and sponsors Catholic projects. The mission is to unite all women of the parish to work for the spiritual benefits and to promote higher ideals within the community. Monthly meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the Seniors Room.

Festival

The Saint James Family Festival is held on the fourth weekend in July. Its primary purpose is to bring together all parishioners to work and play together. If you are interested in volunteering to help at the festival, please call the Parish Office and leave your name.

Foresters

The Catholic Order of Foresters is a fraternal insurance organization for adults and youth. Our activities include bowling and golf tournaments, a baseball league, a city-wide Memorial Mass, awards dance and picnic. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 8:00 p.m. at Nurre-Mihovk-Rosenacker Community Hall.

Ladies Golf League

Women of the parish play on teams on Monday mornings from June through August. The women provide an opportunity for women of the parish to get together and meet new people in a fun and athletic Christian community. If interested in joining or being a substitute, please contact the League.

Ladies Social League (Wednesday night and Friday night Softball)

Adult women of the parish get together to play softball at Saint James fields. Season begins in May and ends the second week of August. For information, contact the Wednesday or Friday night coordinator.

Men over 25 are invited to play on Friday evenings in the gym. They start in November and play through April. Members of the parish interested in joining should contact the coordinator.

Old-Timers Baseball League

All compete with similar groups in 20 parishes on the western side of the city as well as participate in other sporting activities such as their August golf outing. The men promote Christian association and behavior both in and out of the parish community. If interested in joining, please contact the coordinator.

Parish Directory Committee

Volunteers commit their time to produce a colorful hardbound book of Saint James parishioners and administrative personnel. Every so many years, new family pictures are taken and a new directory is created. Meetings are scheduled as needed for planning.

Parish Office Volunteers

Anyone who wishes to help with the monthly preparation and mailing of the Parish Life Newsletter is welcome. The men and women also meet when the need arises to insert pertinent information in the weekly Sunday bulletin. They meet on Friday mornings in the Parish Center.

PTO

The Parent Teacher Organization is open to all persons interested in the goal of the organization. The objective is to encourage interest in education; to promote the welfare of the children; to bring about a close cooperation among parents, teachers and administrators; to provide financial support for educational materials and facilities whenever possible; and to take any and all appropriate action to accomplish the above states object. The PTO Board consists of fifteen members. Seven members are elected each spring to serve a two-year term. The President goes on to serve a third year as Past President. General meetings are announced in the weekly bulletin and Parish Life Newsletter. Volunteers are needed for the various fund raising activities throughout the year.

Special Events Committee

This is a service organization which coordinates the efforts of the parish to provide special events. The men and women help organize the receptions for incoming and outgoing priests, and the Seniors' breakfast. Volunteers are always needed to help with planning, shopping, and working.

Ulster Program

Would your teen like to host a teen from Ireland for the month of July and have a whirlwind month of activities and memories? The Ulster Project looks for local teens between the ages of 14 to 16. Both Catholic and Protestant youth come from Northern Ireland. The goal is to break down the animosity of religions and hope that when these teens leave the United States, they will realize people are people, no matter what the religion. Please contact them if you would like information.

Women's Volleyball

They are not an organized power volleyball team. The women play on Monday nights in the gym and teams are formed with whomever can attend that night. The goal is to have fun, get exercise and meet fellow parishioners over 25 years of age. All play during the months of October through April.
